文言文中，「年」讀為輕聲與否具有辨義功能：

讀輕聲具有表「序數」的功能。
例：《蘭亭集序》

「永和九年」：Eng2-ho5 kiu2--lian0（讀輕聲）意為第九年。

補充：

在文言文裏，「五月」唸「ngou2--goat0」是指「the fifth month」，相當於白話的「gou7--goeh0」；唸「ngou2-goat8」是指「five months」，相當於白話的「gou7-ge3-goeh8」。
